Mossy

Before starting Arisaig for real, I decided to make my first prayer shawl. Originally, I thought I had the perfect set of worsted weight yarns to do a multi-color, potentially log-cabin in construction, shawl. But then I realized I had this mossy green yarn, so cuddly and soft and terry cloth-like that it seemed as if it would knit itself. I cast on 52 stitches and am following the Roman Stripe pattern. I've used this before, for a scarf out of Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran Tweed and I really dig it. I'm not really sure why it's called Roman Stripe -- I mean, I know Roman, and can't figure out what on earth is Roman about it -- but it's a fun pattern.

I have no idea what kind of yarn this is. I bought it on sale at Pearl a few years ago, and believe it was missing its label even then. All I know is that the color is fabulous, it's squishy soft (look!)

and there must be 5,000 yards in the skein. I know you get extra length when there are lots of yarnovers in a pattern, but honestly I've done 19 inches of this 18 inch wide shawl, and have hardly put a dent into it.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow (hooray!), and my goal is to finish it in time to give it to Jo, who will also be there, so she can take it back to the church in Turlock.

Oh, and all that baby stuff I've been working on is completae!
