And the Christmas knitting continues...
Pattern: Center Square, by London Nelson for Knitty Winter 2006
Yarn: Dale of Norway Freestyle in color 3172, Rowan Kid Classic in Glacier (held double), about 1/2 ball of each
Needles: US 10 16" circular and dpns
Start to Finish: November 4-5, 2007
Modifications: I think I added a few additional rounds at the top, right before the decreases, because my gauge was off and the hat was turning out smaller than desired.
Notes: I absolutely love the colorwork pattern of this hat. Its simple geometric-ness really appeals to me, as does the fact that the top of the hat is a "negative" of the bottom. I'm a little obsessed with it, actually, and want to put it into everything I knit.
The hat ended up a little small. The pattern calls for holding two strands of worsted yarn together and instead of doing that, for some reason, I used single-stranded Free Style (which is on the heavier side of worsted) and double-stranded the Kid Classic (lighter worsted). I didn't really pay attention to my gauge until the end, when it was obvious that I was slightly off. It's a little small for me, but I measured my circumference and looked it up and apparently I have a totally man-sized head (darn Carlson blood!). However, it should fit the friend it is intended for (who, I believe, has a more ladylike noggin).

Oh!--The colors of the hat really blend in with the setting of the last picture. ;D
Looks great! I love the colours you chose- brown and blue are such a great combo. - Julie
