Res Completa: Swedish Fad Classic-ish Vest
Pattern: Fad Classic, by Wendy Bernard
Yarn: Gotlands Spinnery Tois in grey, about 450 yards
Needles: US 5 straight needles for the top, US 5 24" circular after joining and before the ribbing, US 3 24" circular for all ribbing (body, neck, and armhole).
Start to Finish: October 14 - November 1, 2007
Modifications: A few. First of all, the pattern calls for worsted weight cotton, and I used a dk weight mohair-y wool. This caused obvious gauge problems, so after doing some calculations, I followed the directions for the size large and it did indeed come out the right size. Secondly, I didn't do the cool pattern that looks like crochet. Thirdly, instead of the crochet-like pattern, I did stockinette until just under the bust, and the rest in ribbing. For such a fuzzy yarn, I really liked this vest and tried to copy it. Also, because I am, uh, not so busty, the vest was a little baggy up on top when I was done. So I pulled out my trusty sewing machine and took it in a little bit, under the arm holes and just before the ribbing.
Notes: I am definitely going to work this pattern again, but just as it's written. I loved being able to try it on as I worked -- hooray for top down! -- and figure out what the perfect length would be. This vest means a lot to me because of the yarn that made it (I go on at length here). That's why I am so happy that it worked out the way it did. It fits quite well, and I've actually already worn it!

SO cute! I love it and you did a great job!
Hey, if you get bored, you can make my big headed baby another bonnet... ;)
What a great job - the fit and color is so cute on you!
Your modifications look fantastic!! It looks just like the pattern from Blue Sky Alpacas. And I think I have the same white shirt (H&M?) so I think you may have inspired me to knit myself a vest!
It is a very wonderful vest and you look fabulous in it. Just like the models in Vogue Knitting!
