I made two Fourteens, and I'm having trouble calling them, collectively, two Fourteens. It makes much more sense to me to say this is one project (since I made both items in one sitting) called Twenty-eight. Hope that's ok.
Pattern: Fourteen, by John Brinegar
Yarn: Cool handspun from my Ma-In-Law in Asheville, NC
Needles: US 17
Start to Finish: March 8, '08
Mods: I did regular 1x1 rib instead of brioche rib because it was too hard with the big needles and curly yarn.
Notes: My mother-in-law gave me this yarn as a gift last spring and I fell in love with it instantly. The curly locks are all springy and sticking out all over the place and the texture is very cool. But one big ol' hank only came with about 70 yards, and because that wasn't quite enough for a scarf, I really didn't know what to do. After letting it all marinate for almost a year, I came across Fourteen, which was perfect. The simple stitch pattern shows off the yarn's texture, and because it is worn around the neck, it gets to be shown off. I had too much yarn for just one Fourteen, and just enough for a Twenty-eight. One has gold buttons (above), and the other, faux tortoise shell:
It's a little warm for a curly neckwarmer right now, but I think it will be great come Fall. A note to any member of my family reading this: Close your eyes -- one of these may be your Christmas present next year.

Fantastic yarn!
totally gorgeous. i love the fibers that spring out. although i'm a sucker for tortoise shell, i really think the gold buttons are a perfect mate for the yarn.
That is a stunning yarn - and a perfect accessory. The buttons are a perfect finishing touch!
Very pretty - so arty and elegant at the same time!
