Res Completa: Modified Drops Jacket a la Canary Knits

Last winter, around the same time that I was making my own Drops A-Line Jacket, I stumbled upon Canary Knits' version of the sweater and absolutely fell in love with it. The big collar, long length, and fitted style were just so chic! It took me almost an entire year to find the perfect yarn for this project, but I finally did and now I have my very own modified Drops Jacket. Thank you, Canary, for the beautiful inspiration(s)!

Pattern: Based on Canary Knits' modifications to the Drops A-Line Jacket
Yarn: Yanabey Merino (heavy worsted, Manos-like discount yarn from Buenos Aires), about 880 yards
Needles: US 10 circs
Start to Finish: January 6-19, 2009

I knit this from the top down the same as Canary, but with slightly different stitch counts: 18 (right double moss stitch panel) + 10 (right front) + 16 (right sleeve) + 38 (back) + 16 (left sleeve) + 10 (left front) + 18 (left panel) = 126 sts total. The double moss stitch panels in the front are 4.5" each, and the sleeves are 10.5" down from the underarm (including 2.5" of double moss stitch cuff). For the collar, I picked up stitches from the cast on neck edge and knit straight up in double moss stitch for about 8". I like to wear it either folded under (as above) or draping open (as below).

Stand up straight, Hilary!

One thing that bothers me a little is how the front panel pulls out from where it's buttoned. I think now that I should have either used bigger buttons or spaced the smaller ones more closely together. Other than that, and the fact that it is the warmest article of clothing I have ever worn in my life (Seriously, this is some crazy warm wool. I am one of those people who is cold all the time, and I still get hot in this thing.), I love the color and the style of this jacket and have designated it a regular wardrobe item.

Drop-dead gorgeous. I think I need a mindless knitting project to keep myself in yarn and needles. Perhaps this could be the one...ah, so many choices. Lovely lovely work!

It's stunning! I love your original but this is definitely a winner too - the color is fabulous on you but it's that collar that really rocks. Nicely done.

Maybe try some snap closures to help with that slight pulling. But, frankly, only you would notice :)

That looks incredible. I would just sew snaps in between the buttons to stop the gaping.

Oooh, lovely! I actually think the pulling between the buttons creates a nice contour in the front. Great colour too! I feel like I'm just cutting and pasting bits from the comments that have already been left. Ha ha.

Oh, this is just wonderful, gorgeous and outstanding. Did you do shaping at the waist/hip? Or is it straight down with button placement for the shaping? Please put this on Ravelry.
