Needles: US 8 circs
Start to Finish: ~October 18-31, 2010
Some specs: 54 repeats of the lace pattern; finished dimensions 29.5 x 43.5”.
I originally fell in love with this pattern after seeing it on Knitty Gritty Thoughts (here and here). It's simple, lovely, gender-neutral (this was before we found out the little one was a boy), and come on -- I'm a total sucker for anything in that shade of green. I had to make one. Sadly, it came at the cost of another knit. My February Lady Sweater, which I loved, just wasn't getting the wear I thought it would and contained the exact yardage I needed for the blanket, so....thus commenced the big rip. It makes me happy that the blanket is worked in the same Gull Stitch lace pattern as the sweater -- it's just a little reminder of what the yarn used to be. The Classy is really perfect for a baby blanket. It's warm, squishy, and even machine washable.
The hormones must really be getting to me, because every time I look at the blanket I practically get weepy thinking of it covering or swaddling the baby. I may have even scrunched it up and held it like a baby at one point....eesh, I can't believe I just admitted that!
I'm working on a top-secret project right now (and oh it is an exciting one), but will hopefully have more baby knits coming off the needles in the very near future!

Awww... I remember my first pregnacy when I would crank up the music box in the nursery every night to pretend a little just because I couldn't wait to see my little Ivy...
Oh, it's beautiful! I LOVE baby things in non-pastels. Your little one will glow wrapped in this rich green. You've inspired me to get cracking on my baby knitting! And it's beyond sweet that you shared your moment of motherly excitement! It would only be a little weird if you weren't actually having a baby. ;)
I think I have a few skeins of Classy lying around- but now I wish it was in this colorway- totally gorgeous. I have never actually made a blanket, I feel like I may have to attempted a blanket with different pieces to it in order to get through it. Was it hard to work through one big piece of fabric?? It turned out lovely- can't wait to see what's next!
It's just beautifully and will be oh-so-cozy for baby! I'm amazed you had the pluck to rip that sweater, but more power to you if that gorgeous yarn is going to see much more use as a result.
My FLS was NOT flattering and ended up in the trash bin, so I can empathize!

what a perfect baby blanket!! It's in my queue as well, and I've every intention of knitting it for my (completely unconceived)little one as well!! It's so great to hear how excited you are for your baby, and the pregnancy. And that's smart that used the yarn from another, less-loved project to be something that you will cherish forever.
That will be one "happy" baby under the blanket! It's a lovely pattern ~ I love to see a baby wrapped in lace.

It is amazing. And don't worry about making excuses for your behavior. Trust me. Pregnant women (such as myself) have gotten away with far wackier things.
It's beautiful, and don't be embarrassed. You have every right to be excited for your new arrival.

You know, I think you've inspired me. I have a shrug in Happy Forest that is *beautiful*, but which NEVER GETS WORN, as it is highly unflattering to my body type. I think I'll frog it and knit something I'll actually use, like a large scarf. So, thanks for the inspiration! :)
It is so beautiful! I will say, I've held my knits and yarn like babies. I think your actions are entirely within the bounds of reason - you have to test it out and see if it's excellent for your future wee one :) Such a lucky baby. You almost had me getting weepy here too!

I saw the original pattern and photo of the February Lady Sweater and liked it but didn't think I would ever attempt it. Now that I see your beautiful green sweater I changed my mind. It is so much more lovely than the original. I LOVE the length of bot the body and sleeves. I want one!!
