Patternum Novum: Nola Petite

Around Thanksgiving, after seeing Daniel play with some particularly adorable baby girl cousins on Neill's side of the family, I had an idea that I just couldn't get out of my head.  What if I resized the Nola Cloche so it would fit babies and toddlers?  Wouldn't a faux-turban cloche look unbearably cute on little noggins?  The answer is yes, yes it would.

Nola Petite is a miniaturized version of the Nola Cloche with the same construction, same cable twist, and same spiral decreases at the crown.  It comes sized from 10"/25.5 cm to 16"/40.5 cm, which covers the sizes corresponding to preemies through 2T.  And it knits up extremely quickly, if you happen to be looking for a super-last-minute gift (just sayin').

The specifics...

Sizes:
10 (12, 14.5, 16)”/ 25.5 (30.5, 37, 40.5) cm circumference, to fit little heads 12 (14, 16, 18)”/ 30.5 (35.5, 40.5, 45.5) cm around.
These sizes correspond roughly to ages Preemie (0-3 months, 3-9 months, 9 months - 2T). The hat can be worn with up to 2.5"/ 6.5 cm of negative ease. If you don't have the recipient on hand to measure her head, go up a size - babies will always grow!
The rolled brim is adjustable, and the hat measures 3 (3.25, 3.75, 4)”/ 7.5 (8.5, 9.5, 10) cm from the brim to the top.
The pale blue sample, size 14.5”/ 37 cm, is modeled by Ruby, age 7 months. The pink and purple samples, size 16”/ 40.5 cm, are modeled by Piper, age 2 years.

55 (70, 80, 90) yds/ 50 (65, 75, 80) m of a DK to light worsted weight yarn; samples shown in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK in color 18037 (purple), Cascade 220 Superwash in color 807 (pink), and Debbie Bliss Rialto in color 23019 (pale blue)

Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) circular and double pointed needles

Gauge:
20 sts & 26 rows = 4"/ 10cm in Stockinette Stitch
