And just like that -- poof! -- almost three weeks went by. It would
be an understatement to say that there has been a lot going on over
here. (And, in fact, it's been three days since I started this post -- I
truly don't think I've had more than five minutes in front of the
computer since last week.) During the week, my mom and I trade off
watching Daniel while the other one works on the house. And on
weekends, Neill does what he needs at the house in the morning, and then
my mom and I work like crazy for the rest of the day, only taking a
break to slam protein bars when we absolutely have to. We've now
smoothed out the walls of the entire upstairs as well as the large
living room downstairs, which is much more than we originally thought
we'd be able to do. But, we got fast, and we just kept going. (I know
this is a knitting blog, but I swear I'm going to have to write a
tutorial for how to smooth out walls. Because we've got this thing down
to a science.)
We're getting close -- but I don't know that we're "almost there" yet. It's like, almost almost there.
Here
are some progress photos from a few days ago. And, actually, because
so much has happened since I first began this blog post, these photos
are already very much out of date! But I'll post them here to have a
reminder of this part of the process...
Kitchen demolition: complete. New can lights in the ceiling, and a new duct for our vent hood.
The last bits of #$@&! wallpaper, found hiding under some old baseboards.
Mom, sanding the first coat of joint compound in the laundry room.
Proof of the sanding...everywhere.
Smooth as a baby's bottom!
Now,
for the first time in forever, the house is quiet and I'm the only one
here to "watch" Daniel while he naps, so it looks like I have some spare
time on my hands! And because in addition to the house, I also have a TNNA both to prepare for, I'd better get off the computer and get knitting!
I hope everyone is having a lovely June so far!

You have been busy! Wallpaper is the devil's handiwork, I must say. And wall smoothing -- doesn't sound fun, but the end result will be worth it. Can't wait to see how the kitchen turns out. I didn't realize how serious a gut reno you were doing in there!
Keep up the great work!
It sounds like things are a little insane over there, but think how accomplished you'll feel when it's all done!
Congratulations! Looks great. Can't wait to see the TNNA booth, too :)
Congratulations, and please remember to wear your masks when you're sanding that stuff! Proof of sanding can go everywhere including your lungs... and we want you to be with us a long time. (Looks beautiful, btw.)
I love these house posts! It's looking great. My parents live close to the central valley, so I'm very familiar with those flat, hot, dry summers!
